INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE OF PROJECT
The Supreme Court Library has information on each of the Judges of the Supreme Court since Independence as well as each of the speeches given by the various Chief Justices at the openings of the Law Terms. It has always been recognized by the Library staff, that this is a unique collection, but one that is in large measure, an unknown entity. The collection is a part of the Library's Caribbean Collection.
The Library began, in 2001, to make concerted efforts to acquire photographs of all the Chief Justices who have served Trinidad and Tobago . The photographs that have already been acquired are on display at the Law Library in Port of Spain . This thrust to acquire the photographs can also be considered as part of this special project.
It is hoped that this project will
- maximize the use of the collection among the Judiciary and the Legal Fraternity;
- preserve the collection;
- increase the access points available for retrieving material from the collection;
- make available the collection to the wider community in Trinidad and Tobago , as well as globally, by having it available on the Supreme Court Library's web-page;
- in so doing, the collection will add value to the library's web-page.
